About pivot doors
Is a pivot door harder to seal than a hinged one?
It asks more of the hardware, yes. A hinged leaf compresses into a rebate all round; a pivot leaf relies on its hardware being correctly specified and adjusted. Done properly it is weathertight, and it is not a door to buy on price.
Can I fit one in an existing entrance?
Sometimes, and it depends on the structure and the floor rather than on the opening size. We measure it before quoting, because this is exactly the kind of job where a surprise on the day the door goes in is expensive for everyone.
Why does it cost more than a French door?
A larger leaf, specialised pivot hardware carrying real weight, and a threshold detail that has to be got right. If the entrance is not meant to be the feature of the elevation, a French door does the same job for less.
