What is a project-out window?
The same thing. Awning is the general term and project-out is what much of the Florida impact industry calls it, including some manufacturers in their product names. If a quote lists one and ours lists the other, you are comparing the same type.
Is it the same as a hopper?
No, and it matters. A hopper is hinged at the bottom and tilts inward. Awning is hinged at the top and opens outward. Hoppers are a cold-climate basement product and are close to irrelevant in Florida.
Can I put one over my sliding door?
That is one of the best uses for it. A band of awning windows above a slider brings in light and lets hot air out at ceiling level, and it looks deliberate rather than added on.
