About fixed windows
Is it cheaper to make a window fixed?
Per square foot, yes, noticeably. If an opening exists for light and view rather than air, making it fixed is the easiest money you will save on the job — and we would rather point that out than quote you an operable unit you will never open.
Can I combine fixed and opening units in one opening?
That is the usual way to do a large opening: a big fixed unit flanked by two casements or awnings. Some ranges match the sightlines between fixed and operable units so the frames line up across the composition.
How do I clean the outside?
From outside. There is no way around it, which is worth remembering before specifying a large fixed unit on an upper floor with no access.
